Acne

What is acne scarring?

After pores have become inflamed with excess oil, cellular debris and bacteria following an acne eruption, they then swell causing the follicle wall to become enlarged and even possibly break. Acne scarring can vary from mild to moderate and acne suffers are not always affected by scarring.

What causes acne scarring?

Acne scarring is often caused from the picking and squeezing of inflamed spots or the picking of scabs from dried breakouts.
UV exposure, without with the use of SPF, can make the skin hyperpigmented causing marks, and scarring can be a result of the body trying to repair itself.

Ageing Hands

Hands & Feet

What are ageing hands?

Visible signs of ageing to the hand vary. Pigmentation on the back of the hands (age spots) is caused by UV damage. Lack of hydration and the depletion of collagen can also lead to signs of the natural ageing process such as to dry or discoloured skin and fine lines.

What causes hands to age?

UV damage slows down our cellular regeneration leading to damage or alteration to the cells’ DNA. This results in sun blemishes and acceleration of the ageing process to the hands.
A lack of internal hydration (water) and external hydration (moisturisers) leads to a loss of vital lipids which the skin needs to stay moist and supple. The delicate hand skin starts to look thinner and lacks that youthful looking plumpness.

Blackheads

What Are Blackheads?

Blackheads are a clogged hair follicle (pore), also known as a ‘comedone’. You can get ‘open’ blackheads, named because of their dark or black surface colour and ‘closed’ ones, known as whiteheads, which can sometimes give a bumpy appearance to the skin.

What Treatments Are Available For Blackheads?

We offer a range of skin treatments for reducing, and in some cases, removing blackheads. If you are looking for professional blackhead removal, why not book a consultation with Sylvester the skincare specialist?
He will examine your skin, taking a better look at your pores and any existing blackheads. Following this, they will be able to answer your questions and recommend the best skin care treatments for professional blackhead removal.

How Are Blackheads (Comedones) Formed?

Each hair follicle on our skin contains hairs and a sebaceous gland. Excess oil production in the sebaceous gland combined with dead skin cells can cause a hair follicle to become blocked. Dead skin cells and excess oil collect in the blocked follicle’s opening, causing a build-up that can enlarge the pores. When this happens, the dead skin cells and sebaceous oil build up, turns black and forms a blackhead, a process called oxidization.

Failure to remove makeup or to cleanse the skin properly is a major problem, encouraging blackheads to form. However, over cleaning or exfoliating can also cause blackheads by irritating the skin causing excess oil production. Blackheads are most common on the face, especially around the T-zone and cheeks, although they can also be found on the chest or back.

If you are suffering from blackheads, please get in touch today.

Sylvester the skincare specialist here at Tranquilstate Skincare studio can carry out a professional blackhead removal and tell you how to look after your skin moving forward.

Crow’s Feet

What are crow’s feet?

lso known as laughter lines, crow’s feet are found around the outer edge of the eye area. There are usually one of the first signs of ageing and can vary from fine to moderate lines, in both depth and length.
What causes crow’s feet (laughter lines)?

Crow’s feet are caused by the depletion of collagen and elastin fibres. Exposure to UV is a major cause. Always use year-round sun protection as UV rays can cause free radical damage, speeding up the process of ageing. Avoid squinting in the sunshine by wearing sunglasses with inadequate UV protection.

Crow’s feet are often referred to as character lines reflecting your facial expressions; over time this creasing of the skin results in a loss of elasticity and decreases the natural hyaluronic acid which is responsible for moisture and plumpness.

Dehydrated Skin

What is dehydrated skin?

A lack of water within the top layers of the skin’s surface causes it to dehydrate, making the skin look dull, feel tight and pores look enlarged. Dehydration will also accelerate the signs of ageing, including fine lines.
This skin condition can affect even combination or oily skin types.

How is dehydration caused?

  • Environment and pollution
  • Weather temperature changes
  • Incorrect beauty product use
  • Central heating
  • Lack of water intake
  • Not using SPF all year round
  • Air conditioning
  • Showering in hard water or chlorine can all lead to skin dehydration and ageing.

Milia

What are Milia?

Milia appear when keratin (dead skin cells) gets trapped beneath the skin and blocks the pores. They are usually white or yellow in colour and are hard to the touch. They are often found around the cheek and eye area.

How are Milia caused?

They can be caused by using beauty products which are too thick for the skin which stop the skin from natural exfoliating. Always use eye creams for around the eye area rather than normal (heavier) moisturiser.
